Orientation

So you may be wondering what you and your son should expect from scouting..... FUN! As a parent, you want your son to grow up to be a person of self-worth, who is self-reliant, dependable and caring. Scouting has these same goals for your son. Since 1910, we have been weaving lifetime values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents in strengthening character, promoting citizenship, and fostering physical fitness in youth. Scouting is family values...but Cub Scout age boys don’t join scouting just to get their character built – they join because it is fun.

Advancement

On the advancement trail, a Cub Scout progresses from rank to rank, learning new skills as he goes. Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As you advance through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities you learn as you get older.

As an Akela you and the pack will help the Cub Scout move up the ranks from Bobcat to Webelos and then on to Boy Scouts. In Cub Scouts it isn't a requirement for a boy to earn all ranks to move upward. The first thing a boy concentrates on regardles of age is the Bobcat badge. This badge signifies the boy has an understanding of the Cub Scout motto, promise, law and
other things such as the sign. Parents you can give your boy a heads up by practicing early! If there is one suggestion of all suggestions it would be to keep track of what activities your boy does and initial them in his book. This backs up the Den Leader in ensuring the boy gets credit for what he worked hard for! Also remember to keep those belt loop and rank cards!

Belt Loops

Belt Loops are a fun and exciting part of Cub Scouting. As a Pack we strive to earn as many as we can!
